The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering was established in the year 2009. The B.Tech-EEE Program was duly approved by the AICTE and affiliated to Pondicherry University, Puducherry. The B.Tech (EEE) programme offers a unique mix of electrical, electronics and computer related courses enabling the students to take-up a professional career / higher studies in any of these areas. Broad range of topics coverage include Electrical Circuits, Electrical machines, control systems, Measurements & Instrumentation, Power generation and distribution, Analog & digital system design, power electronics, Microprocessors, Power systems, High voltage Engineering ,Renewable energy ,Data structures, digital signal processing, Communication systems, Power system economics , etc. The curriculum based on a credit scheme is updated periodically to reflect changes in the Electrical Engineering profession in consultation with experts from industries and renowned academic institutions.
The infrastructure in the laboratory is as per norms. Students get wide exposure and practical hands on training in the sophisticated equipment's during their lab sessions. The EEE department has the following laboratories to cover all the experiments.
BASIC EEE LAB
The objective of this laboratory is to get an exposure on the basic electrical tools, applications and precautions: Different types of wiring used in domestic and industrial Applications. Attending faults in electrical lamp and ceiling fan, exposure on the measurements of voltage and phase using CRO, basic operation and applications of devices such as PN junction diode and transistor and knowledge on the functions and application of basic logic gates and flip flops.
ELECTRICAL MACHINE AC LAB
The objective of this laboratory is to enable the students to realize the performance of AC generators under no load and load conditions. The students get acquainted with the load performance of different types of induction motors and synchronous motors. The course enables the students to understand the predetermination methods for finding the losses and efficiencies of AC motors and generators.
ELECTRICAL MACHINE DC LAB
The objective of this laboratory is to enable the students to realise the performance of single phase and three phase transformers under no load and load conditions. It enables the students to understand the intricacies in connecting the circuit and conducting the experiments. The students get familiarise with the load performance of different types of DC motors and generators and understand the predetermination methods for finding the losses and efficiencies of transformers and DC motors.
ELECTRONICS LAB
The major feature of this laboratory is to enable the students to understand the volt-ampere characteristics of basic electron devices such as PN junction diode, zener diode, bipolar junction transistor, field effect transistor, and silicon controlled rectifier. The students acquire knowledge about the design of biasing circuits of BJT and FET in order to apply them for realising any electronic circuits. In addition, the students are introduced to some applications of these electron devices.Design and analyse the operation of some of the basic analog electronic circuits such as amplifiers, oscillators and multi-vibrators. The course introduces the basic logic gates and flip-flops which help them to build any digital Electronic circuits.
MEASUREMENT & CONTROL LAB
The Measurement & Control laboratory enables the students to understand the basics of calibration and extension of range of different meters. Students acquire knowledge about the various circuit theorems using PSPICE simulation and control system oriented MATLAB experiments. The course enables the students in knowing the working principles of various bridges, magnetic and frequency measurements, analysing the concepts of signal converters, instrumentation amplifier and transducers.
MICROPROCESSOR LAB
Here the students acquire a good knowledge on Microprocessor and micro controller programming and their applications. Besides, the course introduces the concept of interfacing, auxiliary units to the microprocessor and micro controller. By the end of the course, the students will be able to write the assembly language programs in 8085 microprocessor and 8051 micro controller and execute them. The course enables the students to incorporate these concepts into their electronic designs, where control can be achieved via a microprocessor or micro controller implementation.
POWER ELECTRONICS LAB
This course is intended to enable the students to understand the basics of trigger circuits required for various power converters. Students acquire knowledge about the operation of various power converter circuits namely controlled rectifiers, choppers, AC voltage regulators and inverters. The course enables the students to do simulation of these circuits using MATLAB/Simulink and experimentally verify the simulation results in the hardware lab. Besides, the students are introduced to some of the application of these power converters.
POWER SYSTEM SIMULATION LAB
This course is intended to enable the students to acquire knowledge on the programming and simulation of power systems using computer package MATLAB. It introduces Mfile programming in MATLAB for array, matrix operations and plotting of Graphs. By the end of the course, students will be able to develop MATLAB programs for computation of power system components in per-units,formulation of the bus admittance and impedance matrices, load dispatch, load flow, short circuit and transient stability studies.
PROJECT LAB
EEE projects include both core electrical projects as well as electronic projects. We at Ingens offer a hundreds of projects for EEE that are IEEE projects as well as projects based on real time requirements. BE EEE Projects are particularly interesting and challenging at the same time because of the high power involved in the electrical projects. B.Tech EEE Projects can be in many diverse domains and technologies. A B.Tech EEE project can be in a power electronics project, or a power systems project or a project based on electrical machines and drives etc. In addition to all these EEE projects can electronic projects, where they can be embedded system projects, VLSI projects etc. One of the very popular areas for EEE projects of late is the unconventional and renewable power sector, where lot of solar power based project or wind power projects are also possible. Since these are areas that are gaining popularity many IEEE projects are possible in these technologies along with many other technologies.
