National Service Scheme of SGCET
Organized
Village Adoption Programme
Keezh Parikalpattu
(Bahour Commune, Puducherry-607402).
The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Sri Ganesh College of Engineering and Technology has been revitalized with renewed enthusiasm and a strong, year-long commitment to community service. Affiliated with Pondicherry Central University, our unit is dedicated to fostering social responsibility and leadership qualities among our students, embodying the NSS motto: "Not Me But You." In 2025, the NSS team actively engaged students in a variety of initiatives to contribute to community development. The unit adopted Keezh Parikalpattu villages in Bahour Commune, Puducherry, focusing on health and hygiene, literacy, digital awareness, and environmental protection through the Village Adoption Programme. Free medical camps were conducted in collaboration with government and private hospitals, providing essential healthcare services and raising awareness about preventive health practices. Students also organized school cleaning drives in nearby government schools to promote Swachh Bharat ideals and maintained temples in adopted villages to preserve cultural heritage. Additionally, tree plantation drives were carried out in and around the campus and villages to encourage environmental sustainability, while rallies, poster campaigns, and informative talks were held to raise election awareness and educate the community about the importance of voting. Through these initiatives, the NSS Unit successfully strengthened the bond between the college and local communities, promoting a culture of service, cleanliness, and civic responsibility.
The NSS Unit organized a Temple Cleaning Programme in the adopted villages, where students actively cleaned and maintained local temples. This initiative aimed not only to preserve cultural and religious heritage but also to encourage community participation and instill a sense of responsibility among students. By engaging with villagers during the programme, the NSS team promoted awareness about the importance of maintaining public and sacred spaces, fostering respect for traditions while contributing to the overall cleanliness and well-being of the community.
In alignment with the ideals of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the NSS Unit recently organized a successful Cleaning and Maintenance Drive at several nearby government schools. Our dedicated team of volunteers, seen here working with enthusiasm alongside faculty and community leaders, used brooms and spades to clear debris, maintain grounds, and thoroughly clean the school environment. This initiative served a dual purpose: it significantly improved the learning environment for the school students and actively promoted the importance of hygiene and sanitation among our NSS volunteers. The drive was a hands-on, practical demonstration of social responsibility and our unit's commitment to making a tangible difference beyond the college gates.
The NSS Unit underscored its commitment to a green and clean environment through a successful Tree Plantation Drive. Working both within the college campus and in surrounding villages, our enthusiastic volunteers planted hundreds of native saplings. This initiative was a hands-on lesson in environmental stewardship and the critical role of afforestation, fostering a sense of responsibility among students and community members alike to nurture these saplings and leave a lasting green legacy.
Election Awareness Campaign
To promote active and informed participation in the democratic process, the NSS Unit conducted a comprehensive Election Awareness Campaign. Our volunteers engaged with students and the local community through various methods, including informational sessions, and by distributing awareness posters and pamphlets. The campaign's core message focused on the significance of the right to vote, especially among first-time voters, and the importance of exercising this civic duty responsibly. This initiative successfully instilled a sense of electoral literacy and civic responsibility, demonstrating the NSS unit’s commitment to building an engaged and accountable citizenry
The successful execution of our recent initiatives—including the Free Medical Camp, the Temple Cleaning Programme, the Tree Plantation Drive, the School Cleaning Drive, and the Election Awareness Campaign, proves the dedication and energy of our NSS volunteers. These completed projects have laid a solid foundation for our main mission: the Keezh Parikalpattu Village Adoption Programme. We have committed to a holistic development plan focusing on Health, Literacy, Digital Awareness, and Environmental Protection, and we need your support! Participating in the NSS Unit offers invaluable opportunities to develop leadership and life skills while making a real-world difference.
