Honouring the Iron Man of India
In commemoration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Sri Ganesh College of Engineering and Technology, Puducherry, organized and participated in a series of impactful events under the banner “SARDAR@150 – Unity and Nation Building.”
The initiative aimed to celebrate the life, vision, and leadership of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, inspiring students to embrace the values of unity, integrity, discipline, and nation-building.
District Level Padyatra – 31st October 2025
A total of 48 NSS volunteers from the college participated in a District Level Padyatra, held under the guidance of the Police Department and station staff at Kirumampakkam. Students from three medical colleges and one school also joined the walk, which symbolized unity and harmony. Participants took a pledge and marched together to promote national integrity and pay tribute to the Iron Man of India.
Unity Rally – 31st October 2025
As part of the nationwide SARDAR@150 Unity March, launched by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports under the theme “Ek Bharat, Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” a Unity Rally was organized by the Kirumampakkam Police Station. The rally, from Kirumampakkam Police Station to Aruppadai, promoted national integration and awareness about Sardar Patel’s efforts in uniting India.
NSS volunteers from SGCET participated enthusiastically, carrying banners and placards displaying slogans such as “Unity in Diversity” and “Nation First.” Police officials, students, and volunteers collectively spread messages of unity, patriotism, and collective responsibility.
Awareness Activities at College
In addition to field activities, the college organized several awareness competitions on campus:
Essay Writing Competition – “The Role of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in National Integration.”
Speech Competition – “Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel: The Iron Man of India.”
Role Presentation – Depicting Sardar Patel’s contribution to India’s Freedom Struggle and Nation Building.
Students participated with great enthusiasm, showcasing their knowledge and admiration for Sardar Patel’s leadership and patriotism.
Certificate Distribution Ceremony – 11th November 2025
To conclude the series of events, a Certificate Distribution Ceremony was held on 11th November 2025 at the college.
Certificates were presented to the winners and participants in the presence of our Principal Dr. N. Gobu, Vice Principal Dr. M. Karunakaran, and NSS Coordinators, who appreciated the students’ involvement and commitment.
Around 10 students were recognized as winners for their outstanding participation and performance in various competitions.
The event celebrated the collective spirit of students and their active contribution toward promoting unity and national integrity.
Acknowledgement and Conclusion
The Management, Principal, Vice Principal, and NSS Coordinators expressed heartfelt appreciation to all the participants, faculty members, and supporting staff for their efforts in making the SARDAR@150 activities a grand success.
These events not only paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel but also reminded the younger generation of their responsibility in upholding the spirit of a united and strong India.
Sri Ganesh College of Engineering and Technology continues to instill the values of leadership, service, and patriotism among students.
