Puducherry Police Department
Organizes
NSS Road Rally on Traffic Awareness and Safety
An NSS Road Rally on Traffic Awareness and Safety was conducted on 25 January
2026 to create awareness among students and the general public about the importance
of road safety and responsible driving. The programme was organised by the
Puducherry Police Department and co-ordinated by Dr. R. Rajesh, NSS Programme
Officer, with active participation from both the faculty and NSS volunteers of Sri
Ganesh College of Engineering & Technology (SGCET). The event was conducted as
part of the National Road Safety Month 2025, a nationwide campaign observed from
1st to 31st January, led by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH)
and implemented through initiatives such as the Indian Road Safety Campaign and
Mera Yuva Bharat (MYBharat).
Impact and Civic Responsibility
The rally was held at Puducherry Beach Road near the Mahatma Gandhi Statue
and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students. The participants took
part in the rally by riding two-wheelers while wearing helmets, thereby
emphasising the importance of following traffic rules and adopting safety
measures. The initiative aimed to educate students on safe driving practices, the
mandatory use of helmets, and strict adherence to traffic regulations in order to
prevent road accidents. The rally also aligned with the national vision of the
campaign, “Sadak Suraksha – Jeevan Raksha”, which seeks to engage youth in
spreading awareness, driving change, and reducing road accident fatalities and
injuries nationwide.
The road rally successfully created awareness about traffic safety and reinforced
a strong sense of civic responsibility among the students. The event reflected the
commitment of the NSS Unit of Sri Ganesh College of Engineering & Technology
towards promoting social awareness and contributing to public welfare activities,
with the active support of faculty members.
